Media Advisory: Striking Moms to Rally on Mother’s Day Weekend

Demonstration to be held TODAY Friday, May 10, at 1PM, Sheraton Vancouver Airport

Richmond, BC — TODAY, Sheraton Vancouver Airport’s striking mothers will hold a rally to bring awareness to their ongoing struggle for family-supporting jobs from their employer, Larco Hospitality. Sheraton Vancouver Airport workers, represented by UNITE HERE Local 40, have been on strike for 11 months in their fight to earn Metro Vancouver’s living wage of $25.68/hour.

Many of the striking staff at Richmond convention hotel have worked at the Sheraton for over a decade, including many immigrant women with children to support. The hotel was open and busy during the pandemic, with working mothers reporting disrespect from management from 2020 until present day.  Striking mothers are urging the hotel to pay them enough to provide for their families and resolve the strike.

The Sheraton, Hilton, and Marriott Vancouver Airport hotels form the largest hotel complex in BC and are currently under boycott by the BC Federation of Labour and the City of Richmond.
